Retention

Wear your retainers full time except when you are playing sports. Dr. Ohmart will instruct you when he determines a different schedule is needed.

Take your retainers out when you are eating, but be sure to place them in your retainer case so they are not accidentally thrown away with the food on your lunch tray!

Please keep your retainers away from pets: dogs and cats LOVE to chew them!

Brush your retainers when you brush your teeth. If you have the metal retainers use your toothbrush and toothpaste, if you have the clear, or invisible retainers use liquid soap. Once a week you may soak your retainers in denture cleaner or pure white vinegar for 1 hour or longer.

If you lose or break your retainers, call us as soon as possible so we can make you new ones before your teeth shift. An additional set of molds of your teeth will be necessary to make a new set of retainers.

Be sure to bring your retainers to each appointment.
